1. We want to lock in moisture.
All the moisture our skin needs is produced from within. Our bodies naturally make sebum, an oil that hydrates and moisturizes our skin based on how dry it is. When we strip our top layer of skin with cleansers, we remove that protective layer that is locking in the moisture. This leaves our skin feeling dry and needing extra moisture to compensate.

2. We want to avoid blemishes and redness.
There is growing popularity around not washing your face as more people decide to forego the conventional norms we grew up with. Proactiv (the same company as Rodan & Fields), sold us on drying out our skin with their cleansers, so we would need to buy their moisturizers to "add" back all the moisture the cleansers had removed.
Truth be told, this isn't a solution. One company selling an undesirable product that pretends to "work" only to offer an upgrade option to "fix" the problem they created in the first place.
We're not buying into this. This is the main reason we stopped using store bought traditional cleaners all together and what propelled Jacqueline into her ethnobotany studies 7 years ago.

3. We don't want the extra expense or plastic bottle.
This is a very serious one for us. The beauty/health industry is contributing to plastic pollution at an unheard of rate. Given that we will have a separate blog post on this entirely, we'll leave you with 2 questions for now:
1. Why am I paying so much for water?
Check ingredient labels and you'll notice that water/aqua is the first ingredient in most products.
2. How can I avoid plastics in my bathroom?
Opt for products in glass or reusable bottles. Most plastic beauty bottles are not recycled, even if you place them in the recycling bin.

4. We don't have anything we need to wash off.
We don't really wear make-up and if we do, we use one of our oils to remove it. All we really need is warm water from the shower to remove the day to day "dirt + grim" we're exposed to.
Don't let the multi-billion dollar companies fool you - you don't need to wash your face 2x a day, or even daily.

5. We want the simplest routine.
Let's face it, this is the real reason ;) . We've never been about that 10 Step K-Beauty routine. We're only spending ~5 minutes in the bathroom between brushing our teeth and hair. This gives us about ~30 seconds for our skincare routine.
Luckily, we can get our Nudo on in under 30 seconds! And give ourselves an extra ~25 minutes in bed. Asleep.
Ready to Give it a Try?
We know it sounds crazy, but skipping out on cleansers is one of the best things we've done for our skin. Instead, we use warm water when we're in the shower, exfoliate with our 4 ingredient beet mask once a week, and occasionally oil cleanse with a bamboo cloth to remove makeup.
